Great wines from Mendoza, Argentina – Piedra Luna

Argentinean white wine

Argentinean white wine

Since it’s release in 2003 the Piedra Luna range has gained an important following. Our Piedra Luna wines are grown in the Santa Rosa area near Mendoza in the West of Argentina, close to the Andes foothills. Owned by the Trapiche Estate, outstanding wine techniques are closely followed to ensure total reliability. Peter Bright, a pioneer of modern winemaking in Argentina is at the helm ensuring the maximum potential of the grapes.

The red Bonarda Tempranillo draws you into the Argentinian mood of sun-kissed strawberries and rasperries – a juicy fruit wine lightly oaked. The Chenin Blanc is intriguingly aromatic with a suggestion of sherbet lemons and Papaya. The Chenin Blanc – Riesling, a first from Argentina, is a medium crispy white offering a New World optional alternative to German wine.

These great wines are all at a reduced price of £5.50, which means that you can try them without breaking the bank – the wines we have available are;

Our 2002 Pargua Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile

Fine Wines from Vin Vino Direct

Fine Wines from Vin Vino Direct

…it simply has to be tasted to believe how good this wine is !!

Pargua Cabernet Sauvignon

Pargua Cabernet Sauvignon

This amazing bio-dynamic wine is only produced in very small quantities during certain lunar cycles.
Vina Pargua is a very small vineyard located in Alto Jahuel, Maipo Valley. The winemaking and viticulture are in the hands of the incredibly talented Alvaro Espinoza, who focuses on producing just one red wine of a very high quality and in very limited quantities.
The grapes were hand-picked specifically during the last week of April ’01 when the moon reached an optimum lunar cycle – 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Syrah, 8% Cabernet Franc and 5% Carmenere – and have spent 10 months in French oak barrels. Only 2000 cases of this vintage have ever been produced ….. and you’re lucky enough to be able to order some from www.vinvinodirect.com as long as stocks last.

Priced at only £8.50 this is a fantastic wine to drink  – click here to buy online.

Tasting Notes
Cedar and red fruits and a nostril-leaping, fruit-packed nose will always introduce you to Pargua. Well structured with balanced acidity and tannins which leave a lovely lick around the gums. Hints of spice, tobacco and coffee on the palate leading into a firmly flavoured finish. Soft, round, jammy and warm.
Dare we compare this wine to a St. Emilion Grand Cru ..?…we’ll let you be the judge of that.

VineyardsThe Margaret River region is truly a magical place. Valleys of vineyards rolling down to cranking surf, towering columns of Karri trees and epic beaches – a cornucopia of breathtaking beauty, superb local cheeses, venison, chocolate, honey, conserves, olive oils and… fantastic wines.

Chalice BridgeThese Chalice Bridge wines have received amazing reviews in James Halliday’s 2007 Australian Wine Companion with a 5 Star rating (August 2006), putting them in the top 12.5% of all wineries in Australia. All of their 2004 super premium reds and Chardonnay received between 90 and 94 points which is an outstanding result.

Managing Director of Chalice Bridge, Rob Edinger, is very excited about the latest review; “James Halliday is the most respected wine critic in Australia and his Wine Companion is used all around the world as the foremost authority on Australian wine. For Chalice Bridge to receive such strong reviews is very beneficial to our export opportunities and also helps our existing importers continue to build sales within their markets” he said.

‘Travis Limaker’ considered a genius winemaker together with Bob Cartwright from the Leeuwin Estate, a
world famous winemaker are the force behind this emerging vineyard set to impress with many more ‘Gold Medal winning wines’. Chalice offer two ranges of wines, the first is their Dragon Tale born from an enticing story that draws lightly on age-old legends with a touch of mysticism. Emphasis is on fruit and mouth watering freshness.
The second range ‘Ultra Vineyard’ Champions are from pinnacle vineyard sites, limited production and
grapes gathered from a later harvest to intensify their natural fruit and increase their ageing potential. Altogether an exciting team in Australia’s prime region.
